Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) My interest for the Costa Rican folk ensemble "Éditus" was sparked as early as 1999, when Rubén Blades released his exceptional album "Tiempos". Tracks like "Mar del sur" by Walter Flores, "Viento y madera" by Fidel Gamboa, and "Illusiones" by Carlos Vargas stand out on that album - all of them to be attributed to "Éditus", and reoccurring here on this sampler of works from the first ten years (década uno) of the band. The remaining tracks, most of them original compositions by members Edín Solís and Carlos Vargas, co-producer Walter Flores, and special guest Fidel Gamboa, demonstrate impressively that the creative output of "Éditus" is a reliable constant. By the way, the familiar voice of the grand master of salsa and Latin folk music in general, Rubén Blades, can be heard on "Paisaje". Favorite track: Encuentro.
